The lighting of intersections and roundabouts is a key factor in road safety, especially in environments with continuous traffic flow. In this context, the Valencian Regional Government promoted the improvement of lighting at a roundabout in the municipality of Xixona (Alicante) by installing eight OLINTU solar streetlights from EKIONA, mounted on 8-metre columns.
The aim was to increase night-time visibility and reduce shadow spots, while at the same time opting for an efficient and environmentally friendly solution.
1. An intervention designed for traffic environments
The OLINTU solar street lights installed in this roundabout have been selected for their ability to provide uniform and stable lighting on road infrastructure. The height of the columns allows for adequate distribution of light flow, improving visibility of the road layout and facilitating night-time driving.
As it is an autonomous system, energy is generated and managed at the light point itself, avoiding external dependencies and ensuring continuous lighting operation.
2. Less work, more efficiency
One of the most significant aspects of this project is the absence of electrical conduits and civil engineering works, which has allowed the installation to be carried out quickly and with minimal impact on traffic and the environment.
Furthermore, intelligent energy consumption management optimises the use of available solar energy, ensuring the system’s autonomy even during periods of lower radiation.
The result is an efficient, functional and low-impact lighting solution, particularly suitable for road infrastructure.
3. Safer and more sustainable infrastructure
The project in Xixona is an example of how solar lighting can simultaneously contribute to road safety and the sustainability of public infrastructure.
